WISKOQ
Research and Education Institute

Wiskoq: what does it mean?
The name "Wiskoq" was chosen for the institute as it holds profound cultural and ecological significance in the Mi'kmaq. In the Mi'kmaq language, Wiskoq translates to the black ash tree. The institute, founded by Lnu'skwe (Mi'kmaq woman) Sabre Pictou, pays homage to the rich heritage of the Mi'kmaq and their longstanding relationship with the black ash tree.
